SHOTBLASTNG & COATING STEEL
THE PROJECT - Retail store - Boston, MA
THE PROBLEM
A new high-end retail space on Boston’s fashionable Newbury Street wanted to utilize an existing diamond plate turntable as an architectural feature in their floor. The space housed a drive-in car wash in the 1930’s. You would drive your Model T into the building and onto the turntable. The turntable would spin around so you could drive out after getting your Tin Lizzy washed. This is an interesting piece of history that the new tenant wanted to preserve. It was covered with many coats of paint and lots of corrosion.
THE SOLUTION
The steel was shotblasted to a white metal finish with our smaller, ultra-portable Blastrac shotblast machine. The resulting finish was preserved with several coats of high performance urethane.
